Customized silence for broadcast operations
Bayerischer Rundfunk is consolidating key areas of its radio and television production in Munich-Freimann. In a facility where broadcasting, recording, and editing take place around the clock, room acoustics have a direct impact on program quality: even a filing cabinet slamming shut in the next room, footsteps in the hallway, or the hum of the ventilation system can render a recording unusable. Experience shows that the most critical components of any room’s acoustic envelope are not the walls, but the doors and windows. Therefore, a level of sound insulation was required that could withstand professional broadcasting operations—all while the broadcasting center remained in operation.
BUCHELE supplied all of the high-sound-insulating doors and windows for the facility. Among other spaces, the company equipped voice-over booths—where the highest standards for voice recording apply—as well as conference rooms for confidential editorial work. High-sound-insulating windows provide visual contact between the control room and the voice-over booth without compromising acoustic isolation. In particularly sensitive areas, double-door systems were installed: Two soundproof doors placed one behind the other form an airlock that remains effective even when one of the doors is opened—a crucial advantage during live broadcasts. Where required by emergency exit and fire safety planning, the elements were additionally combined with certified fire protection, providing two certified protective functions in a single element.
Studios and booths where the only sound you hear is what’s meant to be broadcast.
